Shirley Glasser, 68, of Madelia, formerly of Jeffers, died Jan. 19, 2013, due to an automobile accident.
Services were Thursday at United Methodist Church in Madelia with Pastor Debbie King Quale officiating.
Special music was provided by Shari Williams, organist; and Kevin Tatro, vocalist.
Casket bearers were Michael Immer, Patrick Saunders, Devan McGinnis, Chad Brand, Troy Brand and Owen DeCathelineau.
Sturm Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements.
Shirley Ann Immer was born March 17, 1944, to Vern and Myrtle (Brand) Immer. She grew up in Jeffers and graduated from Jeffers High School in 1962. She attended Mankato State University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in English.
In 1967, Shirley married Gary Glasser at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Shirley had a passion for teaching and began her teaching career in Madelia.
She also taught swimming lessons and was a lifeguard instructor and co-manager of the Madelia community swimming pool. Between Windom and Madelia, Shirley taught swimming for over 50 years.
She also enjoyed traveling, visiting, playing solitaire and reading.
A member of United Methodist Church in Madelia, Shirley also was treasurer of the Madelia Legion Auxiliary and helped coordinate the Memorial Day service at the school.
Her most cherished accomplishment was her family, especially her granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Isaac; a sister, Sharon; a brother, Curtis; a sister-in-law, Loris Jean; and brothers-in-law, Marvin and Murland.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Glasser of Madelia; sons, Brett (Trish) Glasser of California and Garrett Glasser of Madelia; five granddaughters; a brother, Stewart (Joyce) Immer of Zimmerman; a sister, Gwen (Jack) Sundstrom of Placentia, Calif.; an uncle, John (Hilda) Brand of Jeffers; sisters-in-law, Janet of England, Verona of Hubbard, Ore.; Junaveau of Sacramento, Calif.; Coreen of Comfrey; and Diana of Hopkins.
