Elmer A. Deutschmann
Elmer A. Deutsch-mann, 90, of Windom died Jan. 7, 2013, at Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.
Services were Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Pastor Paul Sajban officiating.
Special music was provided by Ruth Wohlfeil, organist.
Congregational hymns were "Chief of Sinner's Though I Be," "Abide With Me," "By Grace I'm Saved, Grace, Free and Boundless" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives."
Scripture readings were from Isaiah 61:1-3 and 10, 1 John 5:10-13, Psalm 103:1-19 and 1 John 5:18-29.
Ushers were Louis Malchow and Wayne Witt.
Casket bearers were James Jerousek, Nicholas Deutschmann, Joshua Benson, Jonah Benson, Jacob Benson and Adam Deutschmann.
Honorary bearers were Carol Hurad, Lisa Belknap, Alexis McQuown, Joleen Deutschmann, Alana Olson, Karla Deutschmann, Alicia Deutschmann and Alyssa Deutschmann.
Interment was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Dovray Township.
LaCanne Family Funeral Service of Windom handled the funeral arrangements.
Elmer Alex Deutsch-mann was born on Sept. 1, 1922, in Murray County to the late George Alexander and Selma (Zoeller) Deutschmann. He received his education in Dovray Township and later received his GED in 1971.
Elmer was baptized on Oct. 8, 1922, in his home at the family farm and later confirmed on April 2, 1939, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Iona.
On Sept. 28, 1946, Elmer was united in marriage to Mildred Evelyn Lowe at the First United Methodist Church in Winona. This union was blessed with four children: Charles, Evelyn, Edward and Steven.
After marriage, Elmer and Mildred made their home in Dovray Township, Murray County, before moving to Litchfield for a very short time in 1952 and then to rural Windom where they made it their home for many years.
Elmer was an insurance broker for his working years along with having a lifetime interest in farming.
When asked about the years spent as an insurance broker Elmer said, "not quite as many as I wanted."
Through the years, Elmer was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom where he was actively involved with various offices including Elder, Congregational Chairman and Trustee.
He was a Presidential Elector, a member of the Minnesota Insurance Commission Board, a member of the Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Society, active with the Farmers Union and the Minnesota DFL. Many may have thought Elmer's middle name was "Farmers Union DFL" - we have to tell you it was ALEX!!!
In July of 2011, Elmer became a resident of Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where he passed away on Jan. 7, 2013, at the age of 90 years.
Elmer is survived by his four children: Charles Deutschmann and his wife, Nancy, of Madison, S.D.; Evelyn Deutschmann of Estherville, Iowa; Edward Deutschmann and his wife, Gloria, of Hastings; Steven Deutschmann and his wife, Ruth, of Mankato; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Dalbotten of Denver, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Donald Konz of Pine City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred E. Deutschmann; and two sisters, Hilda Deutschmann and Alice Konz.
