Remember Rip Van Winkle, the character created by Washington Irving? Rip was a man who wandered into the woods, met some other fellows, drank a little Jenever and took a long nap. In fact, Rip didn't wake for over 20 years. It seems some computers are having similar issues, fortunately not for 20 years! From what we can tell the Jenever these computers have been drinking is in the form of a Windows update. Further, we think it is affecting some computers but not others because of a minor compatibility issue with some motherboards. In other words, some computers are falling asleep and not waking up. The only way to wake them up is to do a hard shut down on them - push in and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Then turn them back on. While annoying, it is a minor issue that I'm certain will be corrected with a future update. In the meantime, you can avoid this annoyance by going to the settings or control panel of the computer and turn off the sleep/hibernate setting. If you haven't experienced this issue, then I'd recommend you don't turn this off. This isn't the first time we've seen this issue. Usually it is one that happens on older computers that are struggling. By "struggling," I mean no longer have enough horsepower to handle everything that is going on with them. This can sometimes be corrected by adjusting settings on the computer. If you need help with this Rip Van Winkle issue, give us a call. We are happy to assist. In most cases it can be done through our iCitizen Quick Support so you don't even have to bring the computer in.
