Windom school board needs public's input

Windom Area School Board needs your help and input regarding future facilities.
Over the past several years the board has taken a deliberate, careful approach to determine the best solution for the district, community and students. It has hosted over 10 public meetings and facility tours.
It had a comprehensive study of its facilities showing a need for investing a minimum of $10 million to maintain its buildings. This was followed by a study on enrollment projections showing enrollment growth of 17 percent to 24 percent over the next 10 years. Enrollment has grown 7.7 percent over the past 10 years.
Winfair Elementary no longer has the classroom capacity to meet the needs of the district. Space at the middle/high school is diminishing rapidly.
A community-wide task force was created to study the district's facilities, enrollment and programming changes to meet student and community needs. This task force included a wide variety of community members including people from small business, farming, local government, parents, senior citizens and industry. Through a series of seven meetings the task force learned, toured, asked questions and studied Windom school facilities. Finally, the task force made recommendations to the school regarding what options it should continue to investigate.
Information about the school facilities and the recommendations from the task force are being shared at three public meetings that have been advertised in the Citizen, on KDOM and social media. Two of the meetings have already occurred. The third is scheduled for Monday, April 3, at 6 p.m. A light meal will be served at 5:45 p.m., for any who attend.
Your Buildings and Grounds committee which includes Joel Bordewyk, Joan Hunter and myself, urges you to attend this meeting! Have a voice in the decisions regarding school facilities that will impact the future of the school district, community, students and your real estate taxes.
Please attend!
