Engineer: County board's closed session did not spark departure

Engineer: County board's closed session did not spark departure
I am writing to you in response to the recent article regarding my departure.
The decision of my departure does not stem from the closed session of the Sept. 11 county commissioners meeting, but since 2011. This meeting was initiated by two commissioners that resulted in a reprimand.
For the record, I received a one day suspension of my choosing to be used prior to Dec. 31 with 25% reduction of pay. I received this reprimand for an issue that dated back to mid-2011.
The landfill received a $500 fine from the MPCA for not reporting in a timely manner a non-compliance issue. The initial fine was $5,000 and working with them I was able to have it reduced.
As the county's solid waste administrator, I would say that this is probably the smallest fine received by Cottonwood County.
As for the main issues of hiring, recommendations, budget plans, the gravel project and equipment purchases, there had been only one commissioner questioning my recommendations. As a department head, I can only make recommendations to the board. They have final authority to approve or deny.
I can only wonder if this commissioner doesn't like my management skills, or still has a problem regarding the outcome of the mainstream recycling contract that I initiated as the solid waste administrator back in 2011.
As I told the commissioners in my final statement, "I have never made a decision that I felt was not in the best interest of Cottonwood County, whether it was for the highway or the solid waste department."
Before passing judgment on my departure, please talk with other county commissioners or staff.
I would like to thank everyone for the support I've received since my resignation.
