The Windom Eagle fastpitch team had its offense in high gear Saturday but saw its season come to an end after a pair of high-scoring games in the Section 3AA playoffs at Marshall.

Windom opened the day with a 12-11 victory over Benson, but saw the season end with a 17-13 loss to New London-Spicer.

The opener saw both teams put together big innings and squander leads.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the first, the Eagles scored on a Kaitlee Huska RBI single.

The Eagles then tied the game at 5-5 in the second. Jordyn Alm hit an RBI single, Maurissa Isaacs hit a two-run single and Daytona Smedsrud was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Benson regained an 8-5 lead in the third, but the Eagles plated six runs in the fourth to take the lead. Paige Vancura hit an RBI single, Alm hit a three-run double and Isaacs and Jenna Brockman hit back-to-back RBI doubles.

Benson battled back, scoring once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to tie the game at 11-11, but the Eagles got an RBI single from Isaacs in the bottom of the sixth, then retired Benson in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Brockman had four hits in the win. Alm and Isaacs each had three hits and four RBI. Huska added a pair of hits.

Halle Jackson earned the complete-game pitching win.

In the nightcap, the Eagles fell behind early and never fully recovered against NLS.

Windom briefly held a 3-2 lead after one inning. Reegan Elder drove in a run with a groundout and Huska had an RBI single.

But NLS took a 5-3 lead in the third, tacked on four runs in the third and three more in the fifth to take a 12-3 lead.

The Eagles tried to mount a comeback with six runs in the fifth. Brockman and Elder hit RBI singles, Brockman scored on the back end of a double steal, Allison Letcher hit a two-run single and Alm hit an RBI single.

But NLS regained control with five runs in the top of the sixth inning, taking a 17-9 lead.

The Eagles added a pair of runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Elder and Huska, then added two in the seventh on a two-run home run by Isaacs.

Isaacs, Elder and Huska each had three hits in the loss. Alm added a pair of hits.

Jackson took the pitching loss, working the first three innings.

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fastpitch team rolled to a win in its opener Saturday, but two bad innings doomed the Wolverines in game two as the Wolverines bowed out of the Section 2A playoffs at Caswell Park in Mankato.

MLAC opened Saturday's elimination play against Nicollet, picking up a 14-1 win. The Wolverines led 4-1 before erupting for 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning.

MLAC got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third when Destiny Sybounheuan drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on a throwing error.

In the fifth, the Wolverines stretched the lead to 4-0. Margo Stoesz hit an RBI single and Brooke Naas smacked a two-run single.

Nicollet got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Wolverines blew the game open with a 10-run seventh. Stoesz hit an RBI single, Brooke Naas followed with a two-run single, Sybounheuan drew a bases-loaded walk, Taylor Naas hit a two-run single, Molly Carnell drove in a run with a single, Margo Stoesz hit an RBI double and Rylie Tollefson hit a two-run single.

Stoesz led MLAC with three hits. Taylor Naas, Carnell, Tollefson and Brooke Naas each had two hits, with Brooke Naas plating four runs.

Carnell scattered four hits to earn the pitching win, striking out eight.

In the nightcap, the Wolverines saw a 4-2 lead vanish against top-seeded Sleepy Eye St. Mary's in a 13-4 loss.

Down 2-0 in the top of the third, the Wolverines plated four runs to take the lead. Stoesz drew a bases-loaded walk, two runs scored when Tollefson reached on an error and Jordan Boldt hit an RBI single.

The Wolverines stranded runners in scoring position in three of the final four innings.

St. Mary's took the lead with a six-run fourth, then added five more runs in the sixth.

Boldt and Stoesz each had two hits for the Wolverines.

Carnell took the complete-game pitching loss.
