Lakes will be busy on Fourth

The summer fishing season in the area has been very active to date and lakes figure to be busy over the Fourth of July Week.

DNR Fisheries Supervisor Ryan Doorenbos said that the early-season bite for walleye has been very good throughout the region. Lakes have been active for panfish and the bass bite has also been good to start summer.

Fishing activity typically slows somewhat over Fourth of July week as many lakes are filled with recreational boaters. Doorenbos urged people to be mindful of others while on the water and to remember to have life jackets available for every passenger on a boat.

He added that the DNR Enforcement division, as well as other local law enforcement agencies, will be actively patrolling waters to crack down on potential boating while intoxicated violators.
