The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fastpitch team picked up a pair of key section victories Thursday.

The Wolverines opened the day by rallying for a 9-8 win at Nicollet, in a game that had been suspended earlier in the season due to lightning. At the time of the suspension, the Wolverines trailed 8-7 in the top of the fifth inning.

MLAC scored seven runs in the top of the first, with RBI singles from Molly Carnell, Rylie Tollefson and Jordan Boldt. Margo Stoesz plated a run on an error and two runs scored on wild pitches.

Nicollet rallied with six runs in the first and took the lead with single runs in the second and fourth innings.

The Wolverines battled back in the top of the seventh, taking the lead on a two-run Meredith Suess single.

Tollefson and Boldt each had two hits in the win. Carnell was the winning pitcher, allowing 11 hits and striking out four.

The Wolverines then traveled to Cleveland, coming home with a 6-5 eight-inning victory over the Clippers.

MLAC took the lead on a single by Carnell in the top of the third and pushed the lead to 2-0 in the fifth when Destiny Sybounheuan scored on an error.

Cleveland tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth before both teams rallied in the seventh.

MLAC took a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a three-run home run from Carnell, but Cleveland battled back in the bottom of the seventh, including a game-tying two-run home run.

But the Wolverines took the lead for good in the top of the eighth. Hailey Pidde led off the inning with a double and scored on a Boldt single.

Carnell had two hits and four RBI in the win. Sybounheuan, Taylor Naas and Boldt each added a pair of hits.

Carnell picked up the pitching win, allowing 12 hits and striking out seven.
