Windom 100 101 1 = 4-10-2 Luverne 022 017 x = 12-16-1 The Windom Eagle fastpitch team opened Big South Conference play Thursday by splitting a doubleheader with Luverne at the Windom Recreational Area.
The Eagles won the first game 5-2 but dropped the nightcap 12-4.
In the opener, Windom scored on a Maurissa Isaacs RBI single in the first, the broke the game open with a three-run second. Shelby Erickson blooped a two-run single and Sydney Erickson added an RBI single.
Ellie Maricle tacked on an RBI single in the sixth.
Jordyn Alm, Daytona Smedsrud and Maricle each had two hits in the win.
Maricle picked up the pitching win, allowing two runs on seven hits. She walked two and struck out seven.
In the nightcap, the Eagles fell behind early and never recovered, then Luverne blew the game open with a seven-run sixth inning.
Windom had RBI singles from Isaacs in the first inning, Smedsrud in the fourth, Reegan Elder in the sixth and Alm in the seventh.
Faith Willard had three hits in the loss for the Eagles. Isaacs added a pair of hits.
Maricle worked the first 5-1/3 innings to take the pitching loss, allowing 10 runs on 13 hits. She walked one and struck out two.

The Wolverines plated four runs in the bottom of the first, scoring on a two-run Molly Carnell double and a two-run single from Hailey Pidde.
In the sixth, the Wolverines scored on an error and when Jaelin Renquist reached on a fielder's choice.
Carnell had two of the Wolverines' four hits in the game.
She was also the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits. She walked three and struck out seven.
ESWC 100 019 8 = 19-18-0 RRC/WWG 200 000 0 = 2-4-6 After five innings of a close game, Edgerton-Southwest Christian blew things open in the final two innings, surging for a 19-2 win Thursday over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Sanborn.
The Falcons held an early 2-1 lead before the Dutchmen tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth.
ESWC then scored nine runs in the top of the sixth and eight more in the seventh, turning the game into a rout.
Hannah Stevenson took the pitching loss for the Falcons.
