Eagles walk off with a win over Tigers

The Windom Eagle fastpitch team improved to 3-0 on the season in thrilling fashion Tuesday with a 6-5 win over Springfield at the Windom Recreational Area.

Springfield battled from behind to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning. But in the bottom of the seventh, Eagle junior Jordyn Alm smashed an 0-1 pitch over the left-center field fence for a walk-off home run - the first of her career.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first behind an RBI single from Alm and a Halle Jackson RBI double.

In the second, the Eagles stretched the lead to 3-1 when Daytona Smedsrud scored on a throwing error. Smedsrud added an RBI double in the third for a 4-1 Eagle lead.

Springfield cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth, but Windom padded the lead on a solo home run by Maurissa Isaacs.

In the top of the seventh, Springfield got an RBI triple and a run-scoring groundout, tying the game before Alm ended it with a home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Alm led the Eagles with three hits. Jackson and Ellie Maricle had two hits each.

Maricle picked up the pitching win, allowing five runs on nine hits. She walked three and struck out five.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey's offense erupted in the late innings Tuesday as the Wolverines picked up their first win of the season, 14-0 over Murray County Central at Slayton.

The Wolverines plated six runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

In the fourth inning, Meredith Suess drew a bases-loaded walk, Hailey Pidde hit an RBI single and Lexi Toll followed with a two-run single. Destiny Sybounheuan added an RBI single and Taylor Naas and Riley Tollefson drew bases-loaded walks.

In the fifth, two runs scored when Toll reached on an error. Then, in the sixth, Margo Stoesz hit an RBI single, Pidde plated a run when she was hit by a pitch, Toll added a two-run single and Tollefson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Toll finished the game with two hits and four RBI in the win. Molly Carnell had a team-high three hits while Sybounheuan added a pair of hits.

Carnell picked up the pitching win, tossing a five-hit shutout. She struck out four without a walk.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove jumped to an early lead and coasted to an 11-0 win over Heron Lake-Okabena Tuesday in Okabena.

Falcon pitcher Hannah Stevenson held the Wildcats to two hits and struck out 10 batters in the game.

Haley Simonson and Megan Shannon each had two hits and two RBI for the Falcons. Rachel Kedl added two hits and one RBI.
