A strong second half and a dominant night in the paint lifted Red Rock Central to a 75-59 win over Southwest Minnesota Christian Thursday in the Section 3A playoffs at Worthington.

After leading by six at the break, the Falcons put together a strong start to the second half, stretching the lead to 15 points early in the second half. Taylor Bunting hit a pair of early three-pointers, converting a four-point play on one.

The Falcons controlled the lane, with Trevor Pederson scoring 15 of his game-high 22 points in the first half. Luke Engen added all 14 of his points in the second half, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career in the process.

Brady Rasmussen scored 19 points in the win. Bunting added 13 points in the win for the Falcons.

Adrian 34-22 = 56
WWG 31-34 = 65

Westbrook-Walnut Grove opened the second half strong Thursday night, erasing a three-point halftime deficit on its way to a 65-56 win over Adrian in the Section 3A playoffs at Worthington.

The Dragons held a 34-31 halftime lead, but WWG started the second half with a 26-6 run, taking a 17-point lead.

Buckets by Cole Bunting and Matt Deprez gave the Chargers their first lead of the night early in the second half. Deprez and Tyson Elzenga added baskets to give WWG a 41-36 lead.

WWG sophomore Andrew Quade then scored 11 straight Charger points on a lay-up and three straight three-pointers. Meanwhile, the Charger defense held Adrian in check with just four made buckets in the second half.

Elzenga led the Chargers with 19 points. Bunting added 14, Deprez 13 and Quade 11 in the victory.

JWP 20-34 = 54
MLA 29-28 = 57

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton battled back in the second half, but Mt. Lake Area was able to hold off the Bulldog rally late, claiming a 57-54 win in the Section 2A playoffs at Lake Crystal.

The Wolverines held a nine-point halftime lead, but JWP got hot from the outside in the second half. The Bulldogs hit seven three-pointers in the game, with several coming late.

But the Wolverines sealed the game by going 10-of-14 from the free throw line for the game. Levi Stoesz hit 8-of-11 from the stripe.

Marcus Boyd led MLA with 21 points. Stoesz added 17 points. Aaron Fast finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.
