Adrian 26-36 = 62
RRC 30-38 = 68

Red Rock Central used a strong start to the second half to build a commanding lead, then held on late while battling foul trouble and cold shooting to beat Adrian 68-62 in the Section 3A playoffs at Worthington Tuesday.

After a sluggish start to the game, the Falcons opened up on offense late in the first half, eventually taking a 30-26 lead into halftime.

RRC then started the second half with a 13-1 run. And despite seeing forwards Rachel Kedl and Vanessa Kedl both go to the bench with four fouls within the first three minutes of the half, the Falcons were able to expand the lead to 21 points with seven minutes to go.

Kaitlyn Rindfleisch scored three putback baskets during the run and Karina Klabunde, a B-squadder with limited varsity experience, contributed two key buckets and several rebounds during the stretch.

But Adrian mounted a furious comeback, fueled by hot outside shooting by the Dragons and cold shooting from the field and the free throw line for the Falcons. Adrian closed the game with a 25-10 run, but was not able to battle any closer than six points by the final horn.

Ramsey Piotter led the Falcons with 16 points. Haley Simonson added 14 points, including eight second-half free throws. Rachel Kedl added 13 points and nine rebounds and Rindfleisch finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

MLA 14-28 = 42
GHEC/ML/T 37-30 = 67

Mt. Lake Area dug itself a hole it couldn't climb out of in the first half Tuesday night, leading to a 67-42 loss to Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman in the first round of the Section 2A playoffs at Granada.

The Jaguars used pressure defense and strong offensive rebounding to build a 23-point halftime lead. MLA was able to climb back early in the second half, but GHECMLT closed the game strong, pulling the lead back over 20 points late in the contest.

Margo Stoesz scored 17 points to lead the Wolverines. Liana Blomgren added 14 points in the loss.
