St. Clair 18-14-16 = 0 Windom 25-25-25 = 3 The Windom Eagle volleyball team faced an early deficit in Thursday night's Section 2A playoffs matchup against St. Clair, but it would be the only time the Eagles would trail all night.
St. Clair jumped to a quick 7-2 lead to start the match, but the Eagles rattled off seven straight points to take the lead and never relinquish it, going on to a 3-0 sweep over the sixth-seeded Cyclones at Windom.
Rachel Sorensen sparked the rally with a pair of ace serves and Kelsey Hanefeld added four kills to give the Eagles a 9-7 advantage. Windom eventually built the lead to five points before eventually winning the set 25-18.
Windom opened the second set with a 6-2 lead. St. Clair cut the deficit to 10-9 before Windom pulled away.
The Eagles then started the third set strong, eventually building the lead to 20-7 before winning the set 25-16.
Sorensen led the Eagles with 14 kills. Hanefeld added 10. Porsha Porath finished with five blocks. Miki Bolin had 30 set assists.
From the service line, Madison Maras went 16-of-16 with three aces. Jasmine Carlson added three aces and Sorensen and Hannah Redmond had two aces each.
Windom advances to take on second-seeded Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Oct. 29. That match will be the second of the night in St. James.
