Former Eagle Nesseth pitches for Phillies in spring game

Former Windom Eagle standout Mike Nesseth made his Major League spring training debut Thursday night in Florida, pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Nesseth worked one-third of an inning in the Phillies' 5-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Nesseth entered the game with the Phillies down 4-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. He allowed an RBI opposite field double to former American League MVP Dustin Pedroia. Nesseth then struck Lyle Overbay out looking on a 2-2 sinking fastball.

Nesseth started last season pitching in Class A Lakewood, N.J., before being promoted to Clearwater, Fla., the Phillies' High-A affiliate.

Nesseth started his minor league career as a starting pitcher, but has been converted to a full-time relief pitcher in the Phillies organization.
