Loyola 24-45 = 69
MLA 40-30 = 70

Mt. Lake Area survived a three-point barrage by Mankato Loyola in the second half Thursday night and held on to beat the Crusaders 70-69 in the Section 2A playoffs at St. James.

The Wolverines used a 16-0 run early in the game to take a 13-point lead and pushed the lead to 16 at halftime. MLA held a double-digit lead much of the second half.

But Loyola began its comeback with under five minutes to play, hitting 10 three-pointers in the second half to eventually cut the deficit to one point. MLA missed the front end of a one-and-one with 10 seconds to go. Loyola pushed the ball up the court quickly, finding leading scorer Carson Seifert for a last-second three-point try. But Seifert's shot fell off the front of the rim. Josiah Stoesz cleared the rebound as time expired, preserving the win for the Wolverines.

Carter Kirk led the Wolverines with 18 points and 18 rebounds. Stoesz added 16 points and nine rebounds. Andrew Hempeck had 15 points, all in the first half, and added 10 assists in the win.

Seifert led Loyola with 29 points.

RRC 22-26 = 48
RTR 29-36 = 65

Red Rock Central had battled to within a single point with just over 12 minutes left in the game, but Russell-Tyler-Ruthton went on a long second-half surge, outscoring RRC 32-16 over the final 12 minutes to claim a 65-48 win in the Section 3A playoffs Thursday at Worthington.

RRC trailed by seven at halftime and struggled to find their touch from the outside the entire game. RRC went just 2-of-21 on three-point attempts in the contest.

But baskets by the senior duo of Jeff DeCock and Henry Rogotzke had the Falcons within a point with 12:15 to go. After a timeout, the Knights were able to work the ball inside and outside, scoring a pair of inside baskets and getting a three-pointer to push the lead to eight.

The Knights then pulled away when the Falcon offense sputtered for a three-minute stretch. RTR got a pair of driving layups and another three-pointer, eventually pushing the lead to as high as 21 points in the closing minutes.

DeCock and Rogotzke each finished the game with 20 points and six rebounds in the loss.
