Four Cobras advance to State
Bobcats send five to State
Section 3A Tournament
Wabasso-Red Rock Central had four section champions and one runner-up to qualify five for the Class A State Individual Wrestling Tournament during the Section 3A Tournament, held Friday and Saturday in Pipestone.

Spencer Jenniges won the 113-pound title, opening with a technical fall and a major decision win. He then defeated Jordan Engler of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg 6-3 in the finals.

At 145, Tanner Rohlik won a fall and a major decision before claiming a 7-0 win over Kyle Baker of KMS in the finals.

At 182, Jordan Schroepfer won a fall and a major decision before recording an 8-0 major decision over Christian Full of Canby in the finals.

And at 285, Alex Schroepfer won a pair of falls before pinning Tyler Jenson of Benson in 1:00 to win the championship.

Also advancing for the Bobcats was T.J. Fulton as a runner-up at 132. Fulton won a technical fall and a pin before falling 5-2 to Alec Engler of Minneota in the finals.

Mitchell Fulton battled back from a first-round loss to earn a true second match at 106 pounds, but lost a 9-4 decision to Brady Zitzmann of BOLD to finish in third. Derek Christians (126), Mitchell Schroepfer (152), Blake Altermatt (160) and Brady Bierl (195) added third-place finishes, but did not get the chance to wrestle for true second due to semifinal losses to the eventual runner-up. Fifth-place finishers were Josh Altermatt (120), Dominic Ourada (138) and Brian Hagberg (220).

Section 4A Individual Tournament
Windom-Mt. Lake will have four participants in the Class A State Individual Wrestling Tournament after they finished in the top two at the Section 4A Tournament, held Friday and Saturday in LeSueur.

The Cobras had three individual section champions and one runner-up.

Joe Fischenich captured the 113-pound championship. Fischenich, the top seed at the weight class, received a bye into the semifinals. He won a fall in the semifinals, then defeated Cody Hanson of St. James 5-2 in the championship match.

At 126, Jared Willaby was seeded first. Willaby opened the tournament with a fall then won a 9-2 semifinal decision. Willaby then claimed a 5-3 overtime decision over Jason Meyer of Sibley East to win the title.

At 182, top-seeded Vince Johnson opened the tournament with a fall, then won an 8-1 decision in the semifinals. Johnson then won a 5-0 decision over Devin Wolle of St. James to win the championship.

At 106, Wyatt Stevens wound up as the section runner-up. Stevens opened the tournament with an 11-0 major decision, then won a 4-2 decision in the semifinals. In the championship, Stevens lost a 7-5 overtime decision to top-ranked Austin Anderly of LeSueur-Henderson. Stevens had to wrestle a true second match, where he pinned Zeke Dodge of Norwood-Young American in 3:11.

The Cobras had another finalist at 152 pounds. Ben Matter advanced to the finals with a technical fall and a 9-2 semifinal decision. In the finals, Matter lost a 13-4 major decision to Chris Pfarr of LeSueur-Henderson. Matter was then pinned by Zach Gleiter of St. James in a true second match to finish in third place.

Andrew Larson added a third-place finish at 160 pounds. After a 1-0 semifinal loss to Noah Pehrson of Trinity, Larson won a 3-1 decision, then pinned Austin Kube of Sibley East to take third. Larson did not get a true second match after Pehrson lost in the finals.

WML got fourth-place finishes from Jake Junker (170), Aaron Flatgard (220) and Neil Litfin (285). Hunter Quiring (120) and Jacob Suess (132) each finished in fifth place at the section tournament.
