Windom Area 0-0-0 = 0 Marshall 0-2-2 = 4 The Windom Area boys hockey team couldn't find a way to get the puck into the net Thursday night, resulting in a 4-0 loss at Marshall in the opening round of the Section 3A playoffs.
The Eagles were outshot by the Tigers 40-29 in the game and had three golden opportunities to score fall by the wayside. The first good chance to score came late in the first period when Marshall goalie Mason Campion misplayed a puck that had caromed off the back wall in front of the net. Three shots from point-blank range ran into a scrum in front of the net.
The Eagles had a chance to crack a scoreless tie early in the second, but a shot from close range by Travis Janssen was stonewalled by Campion. And later in the period, a scramble in front of the net left the puck in the open with Campion down, but Marshall was able to clear the puck away.
The Tigers cracked the scoreless tie 3:09 into the second period when Adam McVey fired from the blue line. The puck appeared to deflect off a skate in front of the net and skidded past Eagle goalie Ben Stubbe into the net for a goal.
Moments later, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead when Derek Rasmussen found himself all alone in front of the net, taking a pass for a one-timer.
Marshall pushed the lead to 3-0 early in the third when Quinn Horvath scored on a rebound. Then, with under three minutes to play, Windom tried to pull its goalie for an extra attacker but couldn't keep the puck in the offensive zone. Marshall's Andrew Bell fired from near mid-ice and found the empty Eagle net for the 4-0 victory.
Eagle goalie Ben Stubbe finished with 36 saves in the loss.
