Mavericks trip up Eagle girls

Windom 34-23 = 57
MCW 29-30 = 59

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team saw a five-point halftime lead slip away and turned the ball over with one last chance to take the lead late in a 59-57 loss to Martin County West Thursday at Trimont.

The Eagles led by five at the break and held the lead in the final minutes before MCW mounted a rally. Down by one in the closing seconds, the Eagles turned the ball over and were unable to get off a final shot. MCW hit an additional free throw with under two seconds to play, and Windom's last desperation shot fell well short.

Gina Hauge paced the Eagles with 19 points in the loss. Jasmine Carlson added 14 points and Sami Petersen scored 12 in the loss.
