Eagle boys skate past Fairmont 11-1

Windom Area Boys Hockey Coach Jon Ammerman was in unfamiliar territory when his Eagle skaters faced Fairmont on the home ice at the Windom Arena Friday night.

The Eagles were coming off their first loss of the season and Ammerman was no doubt eager to see how his boys would respond.

They responded well.

Windom scored six goals in the first period, including three in the first 1:12 of the game, and were never tested in an 11-1 rout of the Cardinals.

The win pushed Windom's record to 7-1 on the season.

Senior Travis Janssen scored a hat trick in the victory and also had two assists while freshman Devin Nielsen scored two first-period goals and finished with three assists. Two of Janssen's three goals also came in the first period and his third came on a power play.

Windom also got goals from Zach Bartosh, Zach Ignaszewski, Eric Haberman, Stuart Schumacher, Zach Steen and Ryan Evers as the Eagles outshot Fairmont 47-24.

Windom goalie Tyler McGowan stopped 23 of 24 shots on goal for the win.
