GSL Tournament The Windom-Mt. Lake Cobra wrestling team opened the season Saturday by finishing third at the Glencoe-Silver Lake Tournament in Glencoe.
The Cobras had two champions crowned for the day. Junior Hunter Quiring won the title at 106 pounds, recording a pair of falls, including one over Collin Flynn of Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran in the finals.
At 195 pounds, Vince Johnson recorded a fall, then won an injury default over Austin Torres of WM/ML in the finals.
Two Cobras also finished as runners-up. At 120 pounds, Joe Fischenich won a major decision before being pinned by James Goman of Trinity School. Goman is ranked second in the state in Class A at 120 pounds.
At 132 pounds, Jared Willaby placed second, winning a major decision in the semifinals but lost a 12-3 major decision at Matt Elsenpeter of WM/ML in the finals.
Three Cobras earned third-place finishes. Wyatt Stevens finished third at 113 pounds. Ben Matter was third at 152 pounds and Jake Junker placed third at 170 pounds. Andrew Larson was fourth at 160 pounds.
