Windom 18-25-20-21 = 1
JCC 25-17-25-25 = 3

A hard-hitting match with tremendous defense on both sides of the net came down to which team could make set-ending runs. In three of the four sets, that team was Jackson County Central. The Huskies defeated the Windom Eagles 3-1 Thursday in Worthington to win the Section 3AA South championship and earn a trip to Saturday's Section 3AA finals in Marshall.

The loss ended Windom's season with a 22-8 record.

JCC got off to a hot start, building a 19-8 lead in the first set before the Eagles rallied. Windom closed the deficit to 23-18 before JCC was able to close out the set.

The tables turned in the second set, though. Windom started with a 5-0 lead. JCC was able to cut the deficit to 16-15, but a run of serve by Miki Bolin pushed the lead to 20-15 and another by Jasmine Carlson closed out a 25-17 Eagle win.

Windom started with a 5-1 lead in the third set and led 14-9 when the tide turned. JCC rallied to tie the set at 18-18. Windom then grabbed a 20-19 lead before JCC scored six straight points to win the set.

In the fourth set, the Eagles led 5-2 early. JCC rallied for a 12-10 lead, but Windom regained the lead at 14-13. But a long service run by JCC gave the Huskies a 19-14 edge. Windom closed the gap to 21-18 and again to 24-21 before JCC closed out the set and the match.

Holly Larson led Windom at the net with 14 kills and added four blocks. Hali Tasler had eight kills and six blocks. Kelsey Hanefeld had seven kills and Shelby Mattson added a team-best seven blocks.

Hanefeld led the Eagles from the service line, going 15-of-16 with four aces. Mattson was 14-of-17 with a pair of aces and Tasler was 16-of-17 with an ace.

Mattson had 16 set assists in the loss for the Eagles. Jasmine Carlson led the back-row defense with 29 digs. Mattson added 16.
