Highway 60 may get J-turns at Mt. Lake

(Today's news updates: 5:30 a.m., 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.)

A 100 percent decrease in fatal and serious accidents at the intersections going into Mt. Lake - and at no cost to the city or county - may happen in the summer of 2020.

J-Turns, also known as RCUTs (Reduced Conflict U-Turns), are the proposed solution from MnDOT. Funding would come from combining a couple years' worth of safety improvement dollars.

"We have the funding and the capability - why would we wait until a bad crash happens to address the other said Scott Thompson, MnDOT District 7-Mankato traffic engineer.intersections?" said Scott Thompson, MnDOT District 7-Mankato traffic engineer. "We've got a solution we know would address a potential fatal crash problem. There's been a 100 percent reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes at every J-Turn constructed in the state."
