Winfair celebrates Relay Recess by crushing $6,000 goal
Winfair Elementary students celebrated another successful Relay Recess in 2017, easily surpassing not only their $6,000 goal for 2017, but also crushing the amount students raised a year ago.
This year's Relay Recess brought in a whopping $7,292.56. That was over $800 more than was raised a year ago, when Winfair Elementary was the top Relay Recess school in the Upper Midwest.
By reaching their goal of $6,000, students enjoyed the repercussions of several incentives which kicked in. For reaching $2,000, teachers' names were drawn out of a hat to compete in a scooter race playoff on Wednesday. In the end, the team of paraprofessionals Erin Wolf and Chantal Clausen nipped para Trina Kalvig and Title I teacher Sue Curley.
For reaching $4,000, students watched a water balloon toss which pitted eight students and a teacher of their choice against one another. The last surviving tosser was student Alivia Letcher.
Finally, for reaching $6,000, Winfair physical education instructor Linda Jaakola has volunteered to be duct-taped to the wall at Winfair.
