The Des Moines River in Windom could be well on its way to becoming a destination for the growing sport of kayaking.
At least that is the hope of the Windom Kiwanis Club, as it begins to raise funds for two new launches for kayaks and canoes. So far, the Kiwanis has $2,600 of the needed $5,500 to complete the project.
Plans are to install one of the two low impact launches at Dynamite Park in early-June. The other launch would be built at Island Park in the early part of summer, assuming enough funds are raised.
Kiwanis members are working to raise awareness of the project and bring in enough donations to make it possible.
Drew Hage of the Kiwanis Club is spearheading the project and says all donors will receive full recognition on signs that will be placed at Island Park. Individual donations can be as little as $25 to $50. A separate larger sign will list larger donations of $200 or more on oars.
