4/19/2017 8:07:00 AM Eight area orators to vie for medals at Class A State Speech Tournament this weekend
Months of hard work comes down to one final meet for eight area students who have earned the right to compete in the 2017 Class A State Speech Tournament at Apple Valley High School.
The Class AA tournament will be held Friday in Apple Valley with the Class A tournament on Saturday.
Competing in Saturday's Class A State Speech Tournament are seven students from Windom: seniors Christian Lohrenz and Emily Hormig in prose, Austin Jones in humorous and Kelly Hayenga in great speeches; junior Dakota Scott in original oratory; and freshmen Brigitte Beall and Jesus Cazares Reyes in poetry and great speeches, respectively.
Joining them at state is Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central eighth-grader Sarah Jeong in original oratory.
Saturday's tournament begins with registration at 9 a.m. All contestants will then compete in three rounds of preliminary competition, scheduled for 10:15 a.m., 11:45 a.m., and 1:15 p.m.
The top eight in each category then advance to the championship round, which is set for 3:30 p.m.
The awards ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m.
