Youth hunting rendezvous is Saturday

The annual Youth Hunting Rendezvous will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wolf Lake offices on County Road 17 east of Windom.

The day will feature a variety of hands-on demonstrations for kids and adults alike. The day will start with demonstrations on waterfowl retrieval dogs and pointing dogs for pheasant hunting. There will also be a demonstration on field dressing birds with information on how to cook wild game.

There will also be demonstrations on calling wild turkeys and geese, with a goose calling contest at the end of the day. Prizes will be presented to the contest winners.

The day will also feature the Turn In Poachers Wall of Shame trailer, which will be manned by state and federal conservation officers, who will be on hand to answer any law-related hunting questions people may have.

The event is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be served by Friends of the Windom Wetland Management District.
