Windom will try again on local option sales tax

The City of Windom failed in its effort to land an early state approval for a possible local option sales tax and will likely try again next year, according to City Administrator Steve Nasby.

The plan is to seek a tax of roughly a half-percent to 1% to help cover the cost of building a new fire hall, ice arena, or some other city need.

A Windom committee is currently exploring options related to an ice arena. Another committee has already researched the city's options should Windom decide to build a new fire hall.

Regardless of the state legislature's decision, state law requires a community vote before a local option sales tax can be enacted.
