Street department to spray for insects tonight

The Windom Street Department will spray the entire city for insects, according to Bruce Caldwell, city street superintendent.

Caldwell told Citizen Online this morning that city crews sprayed the community for the first time of the summer season this past Monday night.

"We wanted to spray the town again on Thursday night (instead of tonight)," Caldwell said. "But it doesn't look like the weather would cooperate."

The goal is to keep Windom's bug population, specifically the gnats, down during Riverfest weekend. At Tuesday's city council meeting, City Administrator Steve Nasby said the city would have sprayed the town earlier, but windy and rainy conditions prevented it.
