2/20/2013 11:43:00 AM Burglars strike local businesses; Police nab suspect, search for SUV
A suspect is in jail and police are still looking for a key vehicle in the wake of last night's burglaries at Peterson Jewelry and D&L Storage in Windom.
According to police, authorities were alerted to the burglaries by an alarm at Peterson Jewelry at 5:39 am. Officers apprehended a 29-year-old Minneapolis man in connection with that burglary. Nothing was taken from Peterson Jewelry but the building received damage.
A few hours later, at 8:14 a.m., an overnight break-in was discovered at D & L storage (owned by Dick and Linda Vortherms of Windom). Several locked mini-storage lockers were reportedly entered.
Officers were able to connect the two incidents to the same suspect. Officers are contacting storage unit owners to determine what was taken from the property.
The suspect is currently being held in the Cottonwood County Jail and charges are pending. The Windom Police Department has requested the public's help in finding the suspect's dark-colored SUV. Police say the vehicle has light or silver trim around the wheel wells and running boards. Residents are asked to be on the look out for any parked vehicles matching this description that look out of place or are not local vehicles.
Residents should contact the Windom Police Department 831-6134 with any information.
