Mayor Maricle to appoint committee to study arena

As Windom considers its options regarding a possible local 1% sales tax, it appears idea of building a new ice arena is gaining momentum.

At Tuesday's city council meeting, Mayor Corey Maricle expects to appoint a nine-member committee to handle arena research. However, council members stressed that a final decision has not yet been made on whether to use the tax for an arena.

The committee will be represented by the following groups: Windom Area Hockey Association, Windom Figure Skating Club, City council building committee, Windom Area Schools, Cottonwood County government, Windom Arena Booster Club and Windom horse shows. Liaisons will include Arena Manager Al Baloun, Windom City Administrator Steve Nasby and Windom Area Chamber Executive Damon Weinandt.
