1/11/2013 1:45:00 PM BREAKING NEWS: Windom clinics face severe shortage of flu vaccine
A major flu outbreak has created a sudden shortage of flu vaccine in the Windom area.
In the past few hours, Citizen Online has learned that Cottonwood-Jackson Community Health has run out of flu vaccine and will not order additional supplies. Meanwhile, three Windom clinics - Avera United Medical Clinic, Hartberg Medical Clinic and Windom Family Medical Center - have reported significant shortages of the vaccine. Citizen Online received word this afternoon that Sanford Clinic Windom still has the vaccine, but people should call the clinic in advance to schedule a vaccination and to confirm that the vaccine is still available.
Lewis Family Drug has also been doing flu vaccinations. Pharmacist Joel Luitjens reports that the Windom Pharmacy is out of the vaccine, but will be receiving a shipment within the next few days.
While health officials are advising local residents to contact these clinics as soon as possible regarding flu shots, they are also reporting that they are ordering more shipments of the vaccine. Citizen Online has learned that the new dosages will be as effective as those currently being used, but supplies will be limited.
