5/16/2018 8:58:00 AM Council approves sudden change for Riverfest Parade route
(Today's updates 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m.) The Windom Riverfest Parade route took a sudden change yesterday, according to Brian Cooley, city street superintendent.
At last night's council meeting, Cooley told the council the parade would still start at the fairgrounds, but he wanted to switch the first few eastbound blocks of the route to 13th Street. The reason is that 14th Street is not in good condition for a parade, Cooley explained, adding that he had made that decision shortly before Tuesday's meeting. The council approved the route, subject to approval by the Windom Police Department.
To make the change work, the parade will travel south on Eighth Avenue from the fairgrounds before taking a left onto 13th Street. From there, after a few blocks, the route turns right onto Fourth Avenue and the rest of the route is the same as in the past.
The route travels south through the Square on Fourth Avenue before turning left onto Eighth Street. It then goes one block before turning left onto Third Avenue. The route then travels north through the Square before ending at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
