Eagles improve to 7-1 with win over Dragons

The Windom Eagle fastpitch team surged into the lead and closed strong Thursday, improving to 7-1 with an 11-1 win over Adrian Area at the Windom Recreation Area.

The Dragons struck first, scoring on a first-inning double. But the Eagles answered in the bottom of the second, taking the lead for good. Daytona Smedsrud lined a two-run double and Ellie Maricle launched a two-run home run, giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles added a pair of runs in the third. Reegan Elder plated a run with a groundout and Smedsrud added a sacrifice fly.

Then, in the bottom of the fifth, the Eagles ended the game via the 10-run rule. Halle Jackson hit an RBI double, Maricle laced a two-run single and later scored on a wild pitch and Jordyn Alm ended the game with a line-drive single to left field.

Jackson had three hits in the win for the Eagles. Maricle added two hits and four RBI. Faith Willard and Maurissa Isaacs each had two hits.

Maricle earned the pitching victory, holding the Dragons to three hits. She walked one and struck out three.

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey fastpitch team picked up its fourth consecutive victory Thursday afternoon, surging late for a 7-3 win over Madelia-Truman at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Destiny Sybounheuan scored on a wild pitch.

Then, trailing 2-1 in the fifth, the Wolverines plated four runs to take command of the game. Meredith Suess and Lexi Toll each hit two-run singles in the inning.

MLAC added a pair of runs in the sixth. Jordan Boldt scored on an error and Riley Tollefson hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

Margo Stoesz led the offense with three hits. Toll added a pair of hits in the win.

Molly Carnell tossed the complete-game win, scattering five hits without a walk. She struck out three.
