3/20/2017 4:04:00 PM Scam reports continue to flow into law enforcement offices
Local law enforcement officials are receiving almost weekly reports of scams emerging from the Internet and via telephone calls.
Windom Police Chief Scott Peterson reported that officers received another such scam on Saturday morning. In this case, a caller posing as a Western Union official informed a local resident that the person had won some money.
"They wanted them to send money and it sounded too good to be true," Peterson said. "So they didn't fall for it and they reported it to us. We agreed that this was the right thign to do."
It is a good practice, according to law enforcement officials, to avoid sending money or fees to claim prizes. Residents are also instructed to not give out personal information over the phone.
