Windom board to make TV contract decision on Wednesday
The Windom telecommunications commission has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday morning to discuss the fate of several local channels.
The lone agenda item at the meeting, which begins at 11:30 a.m. in the city council chambers, is to review the Viacom contract. According to Windomnet General Manager Dan Olsen, the national cooperative which represents Windomnet approved a contract with Viacom, a national media giant, last week.
Details of that deal's local impact are still being sorted out, Olsen said. Olsen noted that Viacom's initial demand called for a rate increase that is 44 times the rate of inflation.
The local channels impacted by the decision include: Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, VH-1, MTV, TV Land, TeenNick, Nick Jr, CMT, CMT Pure Country, VH-1, VH-1 Classic Rock, M-TV 2, and Spike.
