Turkey Day 5K planned in Westbrook
People will have a chance to work out before their turkey dinner, as the fourth-annual Turkey Day 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held in Westbrook on Thanksgiving morning.
The event will start at 8 a.m. sharp, and will begin at Sanford Westbrook Medical Center and weave through the Westbrook area. In the event of icy roads, the event will be moved to Westbrook-Walnut Grove High School.
There is no fee to participate, but entrants are asked to donate items for Mary and Martha's Pantry Food Shelf. Donation boxes will be available at the Medical Center for all community members wishing to donate to the food shelf who may not want to take part in the run/walk.
In addition, all monetary donations will go toward improving the air conditioning system and steating area for the food shelf.
Last year's run/walk raised $800 and collected 350 pounds of non-perishable items.
The wish list for the food shelf includes a variety of food and hygiene items, including: canned meats, jelly, juice, frosting, ketchup, canned fruits and vegetables, children's candies, soup, laundry soap, dish soap, shampoo, toothpaste and diapers.
