Lafferty named Windom Chamber Executive Director
The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce announced Friday morning that its search for a new executive director had ended.
John Lafferty has been named the new executive director, and will begin his new position Sept. 16. He takes over for Damon Weinandt, who resigned earlier in the month.
Lafferty has worked in the entertainment and hospitality industry for the past 19 years, working in arenas and convention centers in Minneapolis, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Moline, Ill. More recently, Lafferty had served as a freelance consultant and onside manager for music festivals, industry conventions, trade shows and sporting events throughout the U.S.
Lafferty is a Davenport, Iowa, native. He and his wife, Erin, currently live in Comfrey with their two youngest children: Kierin, 8, and Kiera, 7. John's oldest son, Liam, is a college freshman. The Lafferty family has been active in the Windom Area Youth Hockey Association since moving to the region in 2011. Lafferty's wife, Erin, is a native of rural Springfield. Her grandmother, Barbara Hunter, lives in Windom.
Lafferty's official first day on the job will be Sept. 16. A welcoming celebration will be Sept. 20, when the Chamber Office will host Chamber Coffee.
