Four individual first-place finishes helped Windom to a second-place team finish in the Luverne Speech Tournament Saturday.
Windom finished with 92 points behind meet champion Worthington, which racked up 124 points. Adrian was third with 82 points.
Leading Windom to the runner-up finish were a quartet of first-place finishes. Senior Rachel Witt captured first place in drama, while juniors Isaac Steele and Blake Warner copped gold medals in informative speaking and great speeches, respectively. Sophomore Aaron Axford earned Windom's other first-place performance in creative expression.
Mijah Murden continued to post strong performances in poetry, earning the team's only individual second, while Amanda Muller finished third in informative speaking.
Eli Yackel-Juleen and Emily Axford teamed up for a fourth in dramatic duo, while Erin Thiessen and Elsa Mendoza finished fourth in poetry and prose, respectively.
Ryan Helmoski and Abby Resch finished fifth in discussion and great speeches, respectively.
Bringing home blue ribbon performances were Kelly Hayenga and Eliza Ford in dramatic duo and Rylea Minion in extemporaneous reading.
Windom was scheduled to travel to the Southwest Minnesota State University Tournament in Marshall on Saturday. However, due to scheduling conflicts, SMSU and Luverne swapped dates for their tournaments. Local speakers will compete at SMSU in Marshall this Saturday, March 23.
