Commissioners discuss 6th St. walk lane concern

Among the concerns discussed at Tuesday's Cottonwood County commissioners meeting was a complaint regarding the walk lane on 6th St., in Windom (6th St. is technically a county road).

According to Commissioner Kevin Stevens, a Windom resident complained about three problems that converge to create a significant safety hazard:
* Westbound drivers on 6th St. have difficulty seeing pedestrians as the sun is setting.
* Those westbound motorists are not used to the walk lane (which is along the curb to their right) and sometimes drive in that lane.
* The walkers are westbound as well, so their backs are to oncoming traffic.

Commissioners spent some time discussing this issue and recognized that it could be a safety concern. For more on this story, see the March 13 Cottonwood County Citizen and Citizen eEdition.
