City council to take closer look at sales tax tonight

There are signs that a Windom sales tax is gaining momentum as a way to fund large projects, such as the fire hall.

However, unless the law changes, it appears Windom residents would get a vote on the issue. The issue is expected to come up at tonight's regular meeting.

On Monday, Councilman Dominic Jones asked the Windom Economic Development Authority about using the tax as a tool to build a revolving loan fund. Jones and City Administrator Steve Nasby said state law requires cities to put the tax to a vote - at a general election - prior to a legislative request.
