Commissioners OK 11% levy hike for 2013

Citing the need for major improvements to county gravel roads, Cottonwood County commissioners unanimously gave final approval to an 11% levy increase for 2013.

"We decided to go this way instead of bonding," said Commissioner John Oeltjenbruns. "And we decided to do it because we save in the long run."

Board Chair Norm Holmen added: "We save hundreds of thousands of dollars (versus using a $2 million bond).
County Auditor/Treasurer Jan Johnson said that each 1% of a budget increase equals $71,619. About 8.4% of the budget will go toward roads.
