Council approves plan for $4,200 technology stipend

The Windom city council has approved a plan to give each council member a $700 stipend every two years to cover technology costs as the city begins its new plan to go paperless.

The plan officially takes effect in January. At that time, the council will receive no more meeting packets, or printed supplements, such as budget reports. The new technology, such as iPads, will be used to access the council packets online.

City Administrator Steve Nasby estimates the new system will save $6,676 every two years (counting the stipend expenses). Those savings are for staff time and paper for producing budget packets and also the fuel used by police officers to deliver the packets to council members on Friday afternoons.
