City officials expect 3.1% drop from initial levy estimate

It appears the Windom city council may be approving a dramatically lower budget levy increase than previously announced.

City Administrator Steve Nasby told Citizen Online today that the final recommendation will be for the council to approve a levy increase that is 3.1% less than the council's previously announced preliminary levy amount.
In September, the city council approved a preliminary budget calling for a 6% levy increase.

It should be noted that, the preliminary figure is almost always much higher than the final levy total. City councils are forced to estimate high because state law requires cities to approve a final levy that is either the same or lower than the preliminary figure.

Tuesday's council meeting is set for 7 p.m. in the Windom city council chambers.
